Just as I was writing one post, another news story breaks about guess who? The Edmonton Oilers.
Nothing has been final and it’s reported but it looks to be a one for one swap of the young offensive defensemen Jani Pitkanen. Pitkanen had a short stay with only one season after being exchanged for Joffrey Lupul and Jason Smith.
He had only 26 points and struggled. Pitkanen was an RFA and it was made clear Pitkanen would be on the move after the Visnovsky deal. He’s a bit of a enigma though…not really living up to his potential and toughness concerns.
Erik Cole makes 4 million this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent the next off-season. I actually like Cole a whole ton, he’s got major speed and he reminds me a bit of Ryan Smyth. He’s good for 50 points.
I think Edmonton wins this deal for now….as they are getting the best player right now but Pitkanen could live up to his potential as he’s only 24. Basically even and a trade you’ll have to see in the future.
